Horrific Fertilizer Plant Explosion In Waco, Texas

LA Times – A large explosion rocked a small community near Waco, Texas, Wednesday night, triggering a raging fire and dozens of injuries.

The Waco Tribune reported that several firefighters were hurt after a fertilizer plant exploded in the town of West, Texas.

Glenn Robinson, chief executive of Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, told CNN that about 40 people had been brought to the hospital with injuries, some serious.

Officials were setting up a trauma center at the West Community Center.

Gov. Rick Perry put out the following statement:

“We are monitoring developments and gathering information as details continue to emerge about this incident. We have also mobilized state resources to help local authorities. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of West, and the first responders on the scene.”

Initial reports are that this was an accident and no way a terrorist threat or a threat to the nation’s safety.  Either way, its not a thing you want to hear about 2 days after the bombings in Boston.  Seems like whatever can go wrong is going wrong.  Really makes you put into prospective just how everyday really does matter.  Freak things happen at every turn.  People’s windows and insulation of their houses were blown out by this explosion.  A nursing home was evacuated.  And in some cases, homes were destroyed where families left with nothing but the clothes on their back.  The worst case are obviously the victims who were in the plant or near it during the explosion and suffered death.  Estimates are that some 200 people are injured in this explosion.  While who knows the amount whom are suspected dead. Can’t imagine such a horrific death.  An absolute unfortunate event for Waco, Texas, the victims, their families and all the firefighters risking their own lives for the lives of others.  It truly is a job that doesn’t get enough gratitude and appreciation.
