ESPN – USC has hired Florida Gulf Coast’s Andy Enfield to be its new coach, the school announced Monday night on Twitter.
“Please welcome Andy Enfield (@CoachEnfield) to the #TrojanFamilyas the new head coach of @USC_Hoops. #DunkCityUSC,” USC tweeted.
The deal is for six years, a source told ESPN.com’s Andy Katz.
Enfield’s Florida Gulf Coast became the first 15-seed to reach the Sweet 16 in this year’s NCAA tournament with upsets of Georgetown and San Diego State. The Eagles’ Cinderella run ended Friday in a 62-50 loss to Florida.
Enfield replaces Kevin O’Neill, who USC fired in January after a 7-10 start in his fourth season.
Andy is taking his talents, and his model wife, to Southern California. Bro just got paaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiidddddddd. ESPN is reporting that his salary at FGCU was $157,000 a year, while he’ll now be making over $1 million a year with USC. That’s a hell of a pay raise. The real story is USC trying to steal #DunkCity. How fucked up with that? Kind of ballsy, guys. Andy Enfield isn’t Dunk City, FGCU is. You can’t just be stealing their coach and then trying to steal their slogan. But that’s just Southern Cal. They think they”re oh so cool.
