NFL.com – Sunday’s AFC Championship Game loss to the Baltimore Ravens has brought out the worst in a handful of New England Patriots fans.
Torrey Smith claims he was the subject of angry tweets from Patriots supporters taunting the Ravens wideout for the death of his younger brother. Tevin Jones passed away after a motorcycle accident in September, an event that united Baltimore’s locker room.
“Played a lot of games since my brothers death and I never received as many rude tweets after a win than Sunday… yet NE fans cry about class,” Smith tweeted Tuesday.
Patriots fans were up in arms over comments by Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs, who shredded New England after the game.
“These are the most arrogant (expletive) in the world,” Suggs said.
Twitter can be a comfortable home to classless, vapid behavior. It’s better to expect the worst, but anyone going after Smith for the death of a family member has outdone Suggs by a country mile.
Need another reason to hate the New England Patriots and their fans? Well here it is. Their classless fan based got to Twitter and mocked a man for the death of his brother. Utterly disgusting. These are the same fans who cry how outrageous it is that Ray Lewis gets media attention and will one day become a hall of famer even though he was acquitted of murder charges. The same fans who had a player on their team after he was CONVICTED of DUI manslaughter. The same fans who also currently have a man on their team who was indicted on shooting his sister’s boyfriend earlier in 2012. This is the intelligence factor of Patriot fans. Actually, New England fans in general. They’re the biggest bandwagon jumpers on the planet. Have one of the hometown teams win a championship and suddenly a hundred thousand people are now fans of that team. Its why I coined the term “Championship Fans” for them. It epitomizes them.
So no, I wasn’t surprised that these fake fans jumped to the internet to bash Torrey Smith and his family.. I was waiting for it. Just like I wasn’t surprised about Anna Welker’s comments. They’ll never sit there and say “we lost because we weren’t the better team. Our coaches sucked and our players sucked.” Nope. They’ll sit there and tell you it was the refs fault. It was a missed call. If he would have caught that ball instead of dropping it we would have won. They had a “murderer” on the other team. They made a lucky catch. Then they made another lucky catch. They’re cheaters because they hit too hard and injured our players. Blah, blah, blah, blah, fuckin’ blah. And it all radiates in their coaches interviews. Seriously, watch Belichicks interview from Sunday night after the game. It was the biggest display of poor sportsmanship that I’ve ever seen. And to make matters worse, before that he had refused an interview with CBS.
As a lifelong New York Giants fan nothing made me happier than to watch my team ruin their 19-0 season, and then take it to them again 4 years later in their “rematch” game. Now because of that Patriots fans hate the New York Giants more than they hate division rival Jets, Dolphins and Bills. And I don’t mind that. And Torrey Smith shouldn’t mind the hating. I know its ruthless but you have to just brush it off, Torrey. They can keep hating the Giants. They can keep hating you and the Ravens. It just means they’re not winning.
