Titus Young Tells The Detroit Lions “Pass Me The Ball Or I’m Going Home”

Pro Football Talk – The Lions may have been better off with the second-round pick they used on receiver Titus Young by simply saying, “Pass.”

Young, who was exiled from the team via an injured reserve designation after lining up “multiple times” in the wrong place during a Week 11 loss to Green Bay, now says via Twitter that, if he doesn’t get the ball thrown his way more often, he no longer wants to play.

Young summed up his position with an oxymoronic tweet, via Anwar Richardson of MLive.com:  “Like I said I never been selfish but if I’m not going to get the football II don’t want to play anymore.”

He also clumsily disputes the notion that he ignored his assignment on a given play.  “Never have I ran the wrong route, just put my self where the ball was going,” Young said.

After the season ended, the Lions seemed to be on the fence about Young.  His latest tweets may be the thing that knocks the team to the “cut your losses” side.

Titus Young has apparently had enough of seeing Matt Stafford throw the ball to Megatron 200 times a game. Enough to where he’s ready to quit football, or at least quit the Lions. The receiving discrepancies weren’t slight either. Calvin led the team with 122 catches for 1,964 yards. Second was Brandon Pettigrew with 59 catches for 567 yards. More than twice as many catches and three times as many yards. Now you can’t tell me that defenses weren’t covering Megatron or showing him more coverage, because every game that I saw Detroit on TV Stafford would go out of his way to throw to CJ. And Detroit goes out of their way to get the ball to CJ. From lining him up out wide on the left, to moving him to the right, to moving him into the slot. Its like their whole game plan was to see how many times they could get the ball in Megatron’s hands.

I don’t have a problem with Titus coming out and demanding to be used, he performed in college and he’s done it in the NFL when he’s been given the opportunity and when he’s had his head on straight. Its obvious that his head hasn’t been on straight with all this Megatron hoopla. If he’s claiming he’s not running the wrong routes, just purposely “putting himself where the ball is going” then he’s going out of his way to show up the coaches, and the quarterback. The Lions are a mess. Schwartz looks like he has no control. Stafford is throwing the ball 60 times a game. They can’t run the ball. They have no offensive line. And Suh and the rest of the defense has been missing in action. Maybe it is time to cut ties with Titus Young, or maybe its time to retool the whole team- players and coaches included.
