NFL – New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, whom the NFL fined $20,000 on Wednesday for missing a mandatory media session, attributed his failure to appear before reporters to a misunderstanding of the week’s rules. Umenyiora said he wasn’t aware he was required to speak to the media Monday through Thursday during Super Bowl week.
Really Osi? You weren’t aware that you were required to speak to the media the week leading up to the Super Bowl? You don’t remember ’07? Has it been that long for you? This has to be one of the worst lies/excuses I’ve ever heard. Right up there with, “I didn’t do it”, “I didn’t mean to say it”,”I did not have sexual relations with that woman”, “the dog ate my homework”, “I’m on my way”, “be there in 5”, “I usually don’t do this”, “I didn’t have my phone on me”, “we just didn’t play as a team”, and the most famous “let me get back to you.” All of these suck, yet they’re all classics. I use “on my way” and “be there in 5” on the reg.
Anybody else think the NFL has a flawed system of handing out fines? $5,000-$10,000 for helmet to helmet hits, but Osi gets $20,000 for missing one day of media day?
